Hammer Scotty remembered

Tony Scott with Mooro

Former Hammer Tony Scott has passed away at the age of 80 on Wednesday. He died in his adopted country, Australia, after losing a long struggle against P.S.P (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy)

The news was confirmed by West Ham fan Tim Crane who runs the email newsletter ‘The West Ham years’ on Ex West Ham players and personnel.

‘Scotty’  as he was known joined West Ham in 1957 and was one of 89 Hammers to have played with Bobby Moore. Several of his 19 goals for the
Club came against teams such as Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Man City and Man United. He made 12 appearances for England Youth alongside his good friend, ‘Mooro.’

Scotty played for Huntingdon Boys and St Neots Town before joining the ground staff at West Ham United in 1957. After three years, and with 12 appearances for England Youth, Scott made his senior West Ham debut on 6th February 1960 against Chelsea.

Partnering Phil Woosnam on the left wing, Scott played 97 games for West Ham, scoring 19 goals, before moving to Aston Villa for £25,000. He played his last game for West Ham on 11 September 1965 against Leicester City.

He went on to play for Torquey United, Bournemouth and Exeter City before being forced to retire though injury in May 1974.

Claret and Hugh sends our condolences to his wife, Sheila and his friends and family .
