West Ham left back Emerson refuses to overly consider Sheffield United’s huge defeat by Newcastle last weekend as a big consideration in today game at the London Stadium.
Whilst accepting the Blades will want to make amends to themselves and their fans for the hammering, he believes we must concentrate entirely on our game rather than that.
Bottom of the division, with one point from six matches played, Paul Heckingbottom’s team appear to be there for the taking but as Emerson identifies only if we are bang on the case ourselves.
Speaking to www.whufc.com he declared: “We are professionals and we know that the players there will want to show they can do much better than they did in the last game. Premier League games are always tough.
“We need to respect our opponents. They had a hard result against Newcastle but, for sure, they will have worked hard this week to come here and play against us. They will want to show their own qualities because they have a lot of good players as well.
“But we need to think about ourselves. We’re playing at home, in front of our home supporters, and we want to do everything we can to win this game.”
The Hammers themselves have suffered two defeat in successive games of course and need to show what they have got against the Yorkshire outfit.
Commenting on the Liverpool defeat Emerson said: “I think we played well in the first half. It’s not easy to play well at Anfield but we did well in the first half. In the second half, we didn’t do as well.
“We had a feeling that we could take points at Liverpool but it didn’t happen and we need to look forward at Sheffield United.”
West Ham sit seventh of course and Emerson is satisfied saying: “We’ve started this season better than last season. Last season, we didn’t start as well in the Premier League but we know our quality.
He added that the squad has shown its quality and the four new players have brought real class to the team.
He said: “Because of them, I think we are stronger now than we were last season. We’ve played six or seven games in the Premier League now and you can see the quality we’re showing in the way we play.”
Nothing short of an absolute tonking of Sheffield United will satisfy me today. 6-0 please.
We must learn to murder these teams in the Premier League……… Last time was 6-0 vs Barnsley in January 1998.
2-0 against Sheffield United is the very least we should expect.
