Josh Cullen has revealed that West Ham have extended his contract to the summer of 2021
The 23-year-old is on loan to Championship side Charlton this season and he was due to be a free agent this summer.
“I have an option year at West Ham that has been triggered,”Cullen told the South London Press. “The club have triggered that”
“We’ll see what happens next year. I’ve always said with these loans that the long term aim is to improve and go back and play for West Ham. While I’m still contracted to West Ham that will always be the aim.”
The Essex-born central midfielder won the Dylan Tombides Award winner in 2014 and was made the Republic of Ireland U21 captain with loan spells with Bradford City, Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic.
He was called-up by Ireland at senior level for the first time after impressing Mick McCarthy while playing for the Addicks in March 2019, before inspiring the south London side to promotion two months later.
Good to see. Probably because we look like we’ll be playing in the championship next season
Absolutely right putting out our under 23s on loans to Championship sides gives them the experience needed for when we drop into the Championship next season. I hope I am wrong but it’s looking like it day after day. I just don’t understand other teams around us are doing business and strengthening for the second half of the season while we leave it till one minute to midnight if we get a player in probably a player nobody else wants. Please can someone explain the abject failures or restructuring that is going on behind the scenes that is obviously having a massive impact on our players and backroom staff. When you look at Sheffield Utd and see what they have achieved this season it looks so bad on us after being told we are a massive club with a global fan base.
