Hammers admit they are “trying” to sign midfield ace

West Ham are still hot on the trail of Lille’s giant midfielder Amadou Onana .

There have been various reports linking us with alleged offers for the defensive midfielder for whom the Irons were first told would cost €60 million.

That is on account of him being tied to the French Ligue One side until 2026 as much as anything else but the Irons have admitted exclusively to Claret and Hugh that they are “still trying” to do a deal this summer.

That may come as a disappointment to those who believe a left sided defender/midfielder is the priority but it seems that manager David Moyes has set his heart of the player.

That may well be because he can also play in central midfield and central defence but at this stage it appears that no fee has been agreed between the two clubs with the Hammers edging upwards towards €40 million for the 6ft 5 in Belgian  international.

A London Stadium source said: “Yes there is interest and we are trying”

  1. Makes sense to get Declan’s understudy during this transfer window, rather than next summer when the fee for his replacement will become inflated.
Good to know that they are still working on a deal for the talented Amadou Onana.

  2. From what I’ve read about Onana he is two footed, equally adept with both left and right foot so I’m sure he could play in Rice or Soucheks position without a problem.

  3. We need a left back and a left sided attacking midfielder more than we need a CDM. We have so little creativity
