West Ham almost guaranteed European qualification for next season after last night’s 3-1 away win over West Bromwich Albion.
Fifth place is already out of reach but on point is enough to secure sixth place and Europa League after Spurs lost 2-1 to Aston Villa yesterday.
Spurs face Leicester City on Sunday for the last game of the season and the Foxes need a result to have a chance at Champions League football.
Everton are the only other team that can mathematically overtake West Ham but would need to pull off a miracle with such an inferior goal difference.
The Toffees would need to beat Manchester City 9-0 or hope West Ham lose 9-0 or a combination of the two to overcome the eight-goal difference between the two clubs.
That alone means the Hammers are virtually guaranteed qualification for Europe either in sixth place for a Europa League group spot or seventh place for a Europa League Conference League place. I know what my money is on!
Paddy Power couldn’t help take a swipe at Spurs last night by saying “From European Super League to Europa Conference League, what a year it has been for Tottenham”
What i’m taking great pleasure out of this morning is our draw with the Spuds and that Lanzini goal. That is one of the goals separating us from Europa league and them from Europa conference. If Lanzini hadn’t smashed that in. We would be on 61 points along with Spuds but below them on goal difference. There has been many other factors separating us of course but nice to concentrate on that one. One point from the final game to guarantee Europa. COYI
Take the minor victories & Lanzini was looking good too bad none of our ‘older’ 26+ can’t stay fit. Big thank you to Villa I was keeping up with that & never been so thrilled for Villa to win & nice own goal from Regulion..
It is a shame we were so close to UCL & with that comes a lot of money but European football especially without having to play early qualifications will be amazing & still help us get players. We don’t need ‘big’ players imo anyway we need hungry players & smart finds.
Think your Maths is off regarding Everton result, think there is 8 goals difference between us and Everton, which means if we lost 4 0 and they won 5 0 they would overtake us. Highly unlikely but stranger things have happened. We should go all out for the win, start the same team that started last night or possibly play Fredericks ahead of Coufal as a right winger and drop Benrahma or Lingard to have a more solid defence, maybe 3511 will be the formation as 1 point is what we need to stay 6th, either way hope we show that intensity required and get the result and our best ever PL points tally COYI!!!
8 goals difference so they need nine as I think we win on a tie. I did say 9-0 win lose 9-0 or a combination of the two
Paddy Power has spoken too soon: Spurs are not guaranteed 7th spot. Everton and Arsenal still have a shout.
