Hammers announce pre-season friendlies

By Sean Whetstone

West Ham have this afternoon confirmed four of our pre-season fixtures ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The news confirms an earlier Claret and Hugh story that David Moyes wants to keep it local and turned down lucrative offers of tours abroad.

David Moyes’ side will take on a range of opposition in preparation for another exciting and busy campaign which will see the Hammers compete in four competitions – the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League.

The first fixtures to be announced are a double header on Tuesday 12 July, when Moyes will split his squad, with one team heading up the A12 to Suffolk to face EFL League One side Ipswich Town, while the other travel to National League outfit Boreham Wood. Both games will kick-off at 7pm.

The Hammers’ next fixture will be played at 3pm on Saturday 16 July, when they travel to the Select Car Leasing Stadium to tackle EFL Championship opponents in Reading. The Hammers faced the same opponents at the same venue last summer, winning 3-0.

A week later, on Saturday 23 July, Championship Play-Off semi-finalists Luton Town will host West Ham at Kenilworth Road in another 3pm kick-off. Nathan Jones’ squad includes no fewer than five former Hammers in Robert Snodgrass, Dan Potts, Reece Burke, Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Henri Lansbury.

Ticket details for all four matches will be confirmed in due course, and make sure to keep an eye open for details of further pre-season matches to be announced.
