Hammers battle for derby point

|

West Ham came from behind to win a hard-earned point against Spurs on Wednesday evening.

The Hammers fell behind to a Thilo Kehrer own goal, but David Moyes’ men hit back, with Tomas Soucek scoring an excellent volleyed finish.

There was plenty of pressure in the second half but the Irons weren’t able to find a winner, and nor were Antonio Conte’s side.

The Hammers could have had a nightmare start when Harry Kane appealed for a penalty after his shot struck Aaron Cresswell, and appeared to hit his arm, but replays showed it hit his head first, so no penalty was given.

Declan Rice slammed an effort at goal from range, drawing a save from Hugo Lloris, while Mikey Antonio hit the post with a curling effort.

But it was Spurs who opened the scoring; a quick breakaway led to Kane putting the ball across goal, and Kehrer nudged it over his own goal line in front of Son Heung-Min.

Soucek volleyed a brilliant equaliser, getting on the end of a lovely Antonio cross, but there was plenty of frustration in the final few minutes.

Lucas Paqueta came on to make his debut, to rapturous applause, and had a golden chance to score when the ball was cut back to him, but he and Emerson got in each other’s way and the ball was allowed to run.

Right at the death, Jarrod Bowen hooked the ball across the goal line but no Hammer could reach it.

A point, taking the Irons to four, but one has to think there was a real chance to win this one!

Best performance of the season should give much confidence going forward. Why bring Ogbonna for Creswell at left back then Emerson 5 minutes later?

This was a much better performance more energy ? Effort and unlucky not to win . Same against Chelsea and a bit of lick there’s no reason we can’t win . Keep it up . COYI ⚒
