West Ham have had a bid accepted by Lille for midfielder Amadou Onana.
Sources at the club have confirmed to CandH the Hammers’ offer for the 20-year-old has met Lille’s requirements.
We understand the Irons were willing to go to around €40m to sign Onana, which equates to £33.4m, and Lille have now reached an agreement to sell the player.
The Hammers do need to agree personal terms with the youngster but the club appear to be edging closer to securing their fifth summer signing, after signing Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes and Gianluca Scamacca.
Onana has been earmarked as something of a rising star after his excellent performances in France.
He is a Belgium international with one cap to his name and has made 41 appearances for the Ligue 1 side since moving from the German club Hamburg.
Onana can play as a defensive midfielder, a central midfielder and a centre-back.
Really hope this gets over the line. It will be good competition for Rice, Soucek, Downes and (hopefully) Coventry, and the fact he can play CB will probably mean Diop is allowed to go, which is probably best for him and the club.
I make you right on ALL counts Mr Buddy Lurve. Glad that the lowballing negotiations are now over.
I do believe that this is Declan’s last season with us and signing Onana will give him the opportunity of a transition season as well as a chance to learn from Declan.
If we can secure this signing and that of Cornet also it will have been an excellent window so far. There are still gaps in the squad to address, most notably a left back and a young centre back with pace but what murmurs are coming out of the club seem to confirm that both of these positions are being addressed. Moyes is still inclined to cling on to the hope that players who show no interest in signing for us will change their minds but at least the club are moving on to other targets quicker. Hopefully the Onana and Cornet signings can now be finalised quickly.
This is the signing I’ve wanted all summer. Having seen the kid play numerous times on the telly, he looks like a perfect replacement for Dec.
I’m hoping he and Scamacca can really transform this club into a regular contender, as they will be the two best players we signed in many a year. Let’s hope Onana’s agents are sensible.
Everton have signed him.
Come on wake up
