The outlook continues to look bleak over the Hammers’ plans to recruit a quality defender.
West Ham have not returned to their interest in Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell, while the French club are said to have rejected a substantial bid of around €18–20 million from Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg.
Cresswell, who joined Toulouse after leaving Leeds United, has become a central figure in the club’s defensive structure.
At just 23, he has already established himself as one of the more promising young centre-backs in Ligue 1.
Reports indicate that Toulouse value him closer to €25 million, and therefore see Wolfsburg’s bid as insufficient. The club previously rejected a €15m offer from Como last summer, signalling a consistent stance on the player’s worth. While other reports suggest that the Hammers did offer £13m for a loan to buy deal which was similarly rejected.

Not looking good for Hammers- Charlie Cresswell
The Irons desperately need a central defender to help shore up a defence that has conceded 44 league goals this season.
While the club dither, Wolfsburg may return with an improved offer.
Having reportedly spent €20m on Pablo Felipe, West Ham fans have been surprised that the club haven’t allocated funds to buy a defender.
For now, though, the message from the French side is clear: Charlie Cresswell is not leaving unless a club meets their valuation.
Stop wasting time and money on unknown second rate versatile players and buy someone who will make a difference now and in the future. Get Cresswell through the door and get rid of the excuse for a player that kilman is. He looks a bargain at €25m compared to Pablo and co . We need a defender ( or 2 ) who can jump and head a ball . We might then just pull a rabbit out of the bag and escape the awful position we have been dragged into by our owners mismanagement
So if he’s going to improve our defence and help us achieve safety the fee is worth it . Unless is one of those PR stunts from Sullivan we tried we failed BS
Unbelievably short sighted of the decision makers. It is decisions like this that will ensure that West Ham continue to struggle. £20m is good value in today’s market and this is not a time for being tight fisted.
He’s that good that clubs in the top leagues all over Europe are competing for his signature at €20 million.
Wait, no its only Wolfsburg that have shown any interest at all.. is he really a target and is he really any good ?
It’s not even £22 million.
For a decent, relatively young CB in January, that’s a steal.
Compared to the price paid for Kilman, we need Jason Statham from Lock, Stock informing us “Too late, too late will be the cry, when the man with the bargains has passed you by.”
Unfortunately and knowing us, that’ll be needing blared out around the stadium come February the 3rd..
Can’t say that we didn’t need 2 forwards, don’t forget both started at the weekend. I would guess that we are waiting on the Paqueta deal, if that goes through then Cresswell becomes a possibility, if not then it’s a loan or someone cheap.
Offered £13m in summer transfer period and could had him for extra £4m.
Club now want £21.5m when will Sullivan learn.
Pay it and get him now once we’ve been relegated it will be end of story.
Is he better at 28 million than Killman at 40 million? If so…
It may well be difficult to persuade Toulouse to let him go, but even harder to persuade Cresswell to join us. Perhaps we can tempt him by saying his dad Aaron played for us ! 😊⚒️⚒️
Let’s bite the bullet and get Cresswell in
That is cheap if he helps us beat the drop
He is young and will be one for the future
Please let’s not wait any longer
We should have signed him by now
Unless he does not want to come of course
Here we go again, let’s buy another forward, and ignore the elephant in the room, which is we need center backs. The current two are OK but not when playing against quick attackers, which in these days is most clubs. In addition we have no cover for them either, going to Kilman is like having a desire to lose the match. We need at least two CB’s that are both upgrades on Kilman, and that should not be hard to do (for anyone else). The issue is that everyone knows that West Ham are desparate, so the price goes up. Spend any money we have and get some CB’s or is that too much like common sense to at least be able to defend.
