Hammers bid gives £25m striker assurance

|

News that the Hammers have bid £25 million for Maxi Gomez was brilliant news at TWO levels!

First, it showed the determination of this management team to get the players they really want and will push all the way with board backing.

But at the second level it demonstrated that even should the Celta Vigo front man decide we aren’t for him and opts for Valencia or elsewhere, there is still money around to meet our immediate striker needs.

After splashing most of his £30 million on Pablo Fornals it was believed the boss had – with a couple of sales clinched in Fernandes and Perez – around £13.5 million left.

Then came the news that in fact a further £12 million had been found to go in for Gomez who still has to make up his mind on remaining in La Liga with last season’s fourth placed team or testing himself in the Premier League with us.

Obviously if the boss and Husillos have made him their number one priority its obvious we should go with their judgement.

However, it’s clear that the cash is available for a very decent upfront operator anyway which is reassuring as we head further into summer window territory.

As much as I would love to see him in the claret & blue I’ve got to honest, I don’t see it happening. If I wasn’t a hammer & completely biased, why would he choose us over Valencia who have got CL to offer?

      Money 💰💰💰💰💰💰

Of course a better contract and playing in the biggest league in the world every week.
It’s been said tho and we have been linked for a long time. Either back the manager with a proper bid or move on.

I watched him play against Athletico Bilbao in the last game of the Spanish season. Not enough to form a proper view. He was taken off early in the second half and didn’t look that interested. I would prefer to let MP and Helios make the call rather than go by a release clause valuation as per Mr Wiggins

If we are 1 of 2 clubs to have identical bids on the table, the value seems to be realistic, looks like just the players choice…. champions league football or a few extra quid & hopefully the chance to play in the best league in the world. ⚒

I don’t think this anything to do with player decision why would he seek assurances to be first choice if he wasn’t interested . This is all about money let’s get real we off 25 mill for a player with a release clause of 44 mill . That is never going to be accepted. We need to stump up much more and I think truly think he is worth it . He would make such a difference put in a realistic offer and we will probably get him !

    • Frankly I have seen nothing much of him – what do you see in believing he’s worth 40m plus Mark. Interested

      • I think you will find he will kick off if he’s stopped from earning the money on offer and as is always the case in these money-crazy days the players hold the aces. It’s that I was discussing.

Hi Hugh granted it is a lot of money I understand that . He has a build built for the PL and will not be pushed off the ball easily . He knows where the goal is and can see a pass . He’s build up play is good and he can easily link the midfield and attack but also able to hold the ball up. He was also in a struggling team with out midfield he would easily score more goals . The exact striker we need Hugh so that’s what I see in the guy. Sometimes you have to pay a bit more . I know others will disagree and I respect all opinions . I am a lifelong hammer and I see the player we need at this moment I just think Gonez is the man .

        • You are in good company Mark – so does Pelle. Personally I think we will get him. They will go higher and Celta aren’t Real. One season in CL or PL for four years? Think he should be wise and go for the latter

      • Wayne says:

What you got to remember is that £30-£40 million get’s you average players these days.

Living up in the West Midlands, all I keep reading is that West Brom would want something in the region of £35 million for a player like Rondon. Can you imagine if we paid that for Rondon?

Football is mad and it isn’t getting any better in terms of fees and wages.

  • ALLAN STONE says:

Getting a bit irritated with the saga now if MP wants him and he wants to come just stump.up.the dosh or get on to the other targets COYI

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I hope we get him but it doesn’t feel remotely realistic yet.

    • Wjo1974 says:

I can’t believe people are dumb enough to question the offer for him. It is either accepted or it’s not and if reports of the offer being accepted are to be believed why are people saying paying more will get him? The offer is accepted by the club selling and it is up to the player. Offer more wages to entice him certainly but upping a bid AFTER a bid is accepted? I do worry about the mentality of some of our fans.
