Hammers boost in defender chase

West Ham have been handed a boost in their reported chase for QPR defender Rob Dickie.

The Hammers have been linked with a swoop for the centre-back as David Moyes seeks cover for the injured Angelo Ogbonna.

Football League World reported that the Irons have had Dickie watched as the club weigh up options after the Italian’s setback ahead of the winter window.

And QPR Director of Football Les Ferdinand has now confirmed that the Championship club may be forced to sell their best players if the bid is right, opening the door to a potential swoop for the central defender.

Speaking at a fans forum, as reported by The 72, the former Premier League striker said: “Obviously we want to keep our prized assets.

“But when offers come into the club, it’s not down to me to say ‘yes we accept it or we don’t’. It’s something I have to put to the board.

“I don’t want to sell (our best players). I didn’t want to sell (Ebere) Eze (to Crystal Palace) because I felt, with Eze in the side this season, we’d have a better chance of getting promoted. But the money was too good for us to turn down.

“So the situation is, if the right offer comes in for a player, we have to sell.”

Dickie is 25 and has made his way into the QPR first-team this season, making a total of 20 appearances in the Championship, and weighing in with two goals.

He has a contract with the club until 2024 and is valued at £2.7m by Transfermarkt.
