Having lost more than their fair share of ‘transfer targets’ to overseas clubs, one piece of encouraging news this lunchtime for Potter and Macaulay as they seek the midfield upgrade to unlock better performances next season.

By all reports a top target has now made it clear he’ll only be looking for a side who offers him Premeier `league football next season and has dismissed moving overseas.

Previously linked with a move to Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen as well as teams in the Italian and French top tiers, Manchester City and England u21  skipper James McAtee is reported by onefootball.com – quoting Skysports -as having made his position clear:

‘McAtee, who has been on the fringes of City’s first team and impressed during loan spells at Sheffield United, is believed to be keen on staying closer to home and gaining consistent game time in the Premier League or Championship. His decision comes amid speculation about City’s midfield reshuffle”

Time to splash the cash that the Hammers are saving on a new striker, then. If Graham Potter gets his main choice this summer, it’d likely be Harvey Elliott or James McAtee. With McAtee believed to be about £5-10 million cheaper, anyone who saw his performances in England’s cup-winning  u21 European Championships would be busting a gut to bring him to West Ham to revitalise the club.

You’d hope.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Not sure about McAtee although he does look good at times I think he could drift in and out of games quite easy. I prefer Elliott myself he is always wanting the ball and can defend better in my opinion

    Id take McAtee.

If we can get him then great…I’m all for fresh bodies cause it’s gonna be a long hard season…I would also seriously consider Callum Wilson on a short contract.. Because we haven’t got any assurances with our current front players..If Bowen gets injured we are in real trouble as it stands.

You had me until you mentioned Wilson, no no no not in any circumstance, not only is he very injury prone, he doesn’t fit the player profile Potter is looking for and hasn’t scored a goal in a year. There are far better options that won’t break the bank and have longevity.

You’ve obviously forgotten the ‘Sullivan factor’. McAtee will probably end up at Forest or Everton.
