Having failed to prise their young man away from Celtic with cash bids before the end of deadline day, West Ham now have to play the long game and wait until his contract in Scotland expires before they can bring him to London on a ‘free’: They are however able to sign him on a pre-contract agreement any day.

Daniel Cummings’ hopes of leaving Parkhead by February 3rd faded as his Celtic bosses refused first £300,000 and then £500,000 apparently, for the teenagers signature. The eventual compensation due to Celtic will be probably lower than 500k.  As reported in the dailyrecord.co.uk, the prolific striker from the Youth League just could not get onto the pitch under Brendan Rodgers who, some would say, is bearing a bit of a grudge about losing his young talent.

The prize that awaits is a young 18 year old striker with masses of potential. According to totalfootballanalysis.com, Cummings has:

“Scored goals that highlight his goalscoring talent and his wonderful ability to deal with complex attacking situations. He adapts his shooting abilities depending on the situation and often anticipates the defenders’ movements to create time and space for himself.”

Of his versatility, “Cummings can also be very creative in terms of finishing. He uses lobbed shots when needed and does not hesitate to change his shooting routines depending on the situation, which makes him difficult to predict. This unpredictability is very important for a striker as it allows him to always find a way to confuse defenders and goalkeepers.”

At just 18 but without Scottish Premiership experience, Cummings is very much one for the future: But that is the squad Graham Potter’s recruitment team are striving to put together now. Hopefully Cummings’ pre contract will be signed soon and we can look forward to watching the youngster develop.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

I thought the understanding was he’d already signed and the deadline day nonsense was trying to make him available prior to the end of the season.

Why don’t we just get these kind of situations concluded?

    Ever.

Looks like you could be about to ruin the career of another promising youngster!
