West Ham have confirmed that bids for Cologne striker Anthony Modeste (right) and the Villarreal forward Cedric Bakambu have been rejected.
Telegraph Sport reported last night that we had made offers of 25 million euros (£22million) for each of the two forward players which is more than they they paid to sign Andre Ayew from Swansea City last summer.
And our top source made it clear this morning that it was true both bids had been made and rejected by the two clubs declaring: “Yes both bids have been turned down at this stage but we continue to monitor all our targets.”
Modeste is a powerful striker who scored 25 goals in the Bundesliga last season, but Cologne are believed to be demanding more than £35million for the player even though he is 29. campaign in Spain with Villarreal.
Bakambu scored 22 goals last season and is a quick and powerful forward player who can also play as a winger having also played in Turkey.
Villarreal value him between £25m and £30m
I like Modeste and we could have got him for around £6m or so last season but we mucked that up. At £35m with 2 good seasons and no goals in 9 games in premier with Blackburn. Giroud would be the better option to throw that kind of money at. He stays fit scored goals 5 years cracking on in premier league and their salaries will be around the same. All this talk of less risk, everything is a risk but better to risk on young foreign players like Henry O or Yahn than almost 30.
Neither player is that exciting, I thought we were targetting players with proven PL experience, if either do join I will hope to be pleasantly surprised and all this “their club value at 25 or 30 million” stuff is usually completely wrong usually you can double or treble whatever that value is even though to begin with it is way over the odds.
I like Bakambu good player when i have watched him for Villareal.Dont know much about Modeste to comment on him tbh.
Not looking too good is it , this window ! ,,, well not so far anyway .
