Only six months ago West Ham were linked with the then – Villarreal striker Alexander Sorloth who was in a bit of a purple patch. He’d just finished one season in Spain and grabbed 23 goals plus six assists in his 34 games- which is electric form. He opted for Athletico Madrid for a transfer fee of €32 million but has failed to make much of an impression on the team, his 11 appearances have contributed three assists in a direct contrast to his form at Villarreal.
It appears , according to the hardtackle.com – from Spanish source fichajes.net that “Sorloth has found it difficult to get going in Simeone’s team. He has not been able to adjust to their style of play which is based on a strong defensive base and quick transitions. With the Norwegian international not firing on all cylinders, he has been forced to start the majority of their matches on the bench. The 28-year-old is starting to regret his decision to move to Atletico Madrid, and reports have linked him with a move away from the club and La Liga on the whole.”
“People close to Sorloth are concerned about his career getting derailed, and they have started looking for a way out. West Ham United have emerged as a potential destination for the left-footed striker. The Hammers were interested in back in the summer as well. Julen Lopetegui is believed to be a fan of the former Villarreal striker and with his team struggling in the final third, the Spanish manager feels Sorloth could solve quite a few of their problems.West Ham are open to a loan move as well as a permanent transfer.”
Financially a loan option would make a lot of sense for West Ham in the January window: A lot depends on what happens to the fitness of their thirty-something threesome that make up the Hammers’ strike force in the meantime. Another example of media outlets across Europe reporting West Ham’s activity in the striker market. As for Sorloth – he’s a youngster by West Ham Striker standards at just 28.
So that box is ‘ticked’ anyway.
Whether West Ham’s interest is ‘window shopping’ or preparation before bidding – we’ll find out in January.
Nah, let’s pass. I prefer a younger more dynamic option. By end of next season he’ll be 30+ too.
Agree with that. He’ll be wanting EPL wages which means there’s less chance of selling him on if it doesn’t work out. It’s like a one way street, the only way is with youth on the player’s side.
