Hammers could be in for Lingard shock

A report in the Sun newspaper claims Manchester United could double their valuation of Jesse Lingard from £20m to £40m after his grat run of form and return to England. West Ham were unable to secure a guaranteed or obligation option to make his loan deal permanent during negotiations with the Red Devils and could now pay the price.

And if his fee climbs towards £40m, it may be too much for the Hammers to pay.

There is hope that the 28-year-old has enjoyed himself so much at the London Stadium that he tells United he wants to make the move there on a full-time basis and helps force his move to West Ham but in reality, Lingard will have little control on any fee Manchester United demand.

His West Ham form has seen him score five goals in seven appearances which has put him back in contention for a place in England’s Euros squad.

  1. As much as i and a lot of us would like to see him at the club permanently . I personally wouldn’t pay more than 15 – 17 million for him . He would probably want a 3 – 4 year contract at around the 75 – 100 a week wages + bonuses and there would be no sell on value . If it would take us 20 – 40 million to get him as per the sun then i believe that money would be put to better use to strengthen the squad imho .

  2. Classic sun journalism! If they value him at £40m no one will pay it, he’ll run his contract down and either leave for £8m-£10m in jan or free next summer so can’t see them setting the bar so high they’ll lose him for nothing just after the COVID financial hit of no fans for a whole season. Theyll obviously start out higher than £20m in the hope of getting as much as possible, but with 12 months left on a contract they don’t really hold the aces.

  3. The sun talking absolute garbage as always. They were saying we want to sell rice for 50m few months back. Clowns.

  4. Why is anyone still reading the Sun?
