Hammers could drop out of European places

Hammers are facing the prospect of dropping out of European places into eighth place by this evening.

Although West Ham sits in sixth place in the Premier League table at lunchtime that might not be the case by midnight

Spurs play Wolves at 2pm with a win allowing them to leapfrog the Hammers into sixth place pushing West Ham into seventh.

Everton plays Sheffield United at 7 pm and a win for them pushing them to seventh and pushing the Hammers down the eighth spot.

Fifth and sixth places qualify for the UEFA Europa League this season while seventh place will qualify for the new UEFA Europa Conference league.

The Hammers have two games to play against West Bromwich Albion and Southampton in the next week so there is still everything to play for.

West Ham just needs to concentrate on their own games and hope results around them maybe go their way.

  1. Sean I agree that we just need to concentrate on our own games – Palace beating Villa this afternoon underlines the fact that there is no easy game in the PL

However as far as today goes I think that Everton would need to beat Sheffield Utd by 7 clear goals to go above us in the table – so should at least stay in 7th – hopefully Wolves can take something from Spurs

    COYI

  2. you are assuming Everton score a lot of goals then.

    • Hi Sean, you are correct although it’s extremely unlikely mate, Everton would need to win by 7 clear goals. Spuds have already won so we’re in 7th but I think we’ll stay there can’t see Everton overhauling us not today anyway. COYI ⚒️ ⚒️

      • No surprise that GSB would welcome us failing to make Europe therefore less pressure to improve the squad. How pitiful our owners are when compared to Leicester City.

  3. We may of taken this a beginning of season, but for me the season is massive disappointment now , one min fighting for champions league now we will be lucky to get into europa qualifying…people will say what a great season but imo they will be kidding themselves after the position we were in…cant believe it ..it will have knock on affect, because lingeard won’t stay without europe and dec could also start getting cold feet ….of all the time to mess it up we have waited for the most important time of season ….anywhere finishing below 6th will be do disappointing….dint think we will ever get a chance like that again..hope im wrong butvwe basically bottled it …players say there not giving up but we have to be honest and say we fkd it up ..truth hurts …..finishing below spurs after all that is soul destroying…ffs

    • You can’t help injuries ! We have not bottled it ! Injuries to 5 inform players ruined our chances. We bottled it in 2 games this season Liverpool and Man Utd that why we are now in this depressing position. The lack of depth in our squad is the main reason we have slipped out the fix when it really mattered. COYI ⚒

      • Well we could have helped the injuries if we’d bolstered the squad appropriately. Not to have one recognised senior striker about sums GSB up for me, negligent when it counts. Moyes has worked a miracle but shouldn’t have to had to do so, and there will be consequences if we do notb qualify for Europe and not that stupid conference league rubbish either

      • Everton have an inferior GD by some distance. They will not push us into eighth tonight. If they do, fair enough, but they won’t. Please clarify your sensational ism!

  4. Let’s be honest about that game Lingard gave the ball away cheaply in the final third , at least 4 times . No movement Ann’s slick passing . It says something when the best player was a sub Benrhama . At least he looked like he wanted to win . The rest looked like they were on holiday . It’s sad to say it cos we have had a great season until now . In the last few games Lingard won’t get in the England squad & the team need to wake up . Sorry lads you’ve been great but that was not good enough .. let’s pick ourselves up and give everything these last 2 games lads , you can do it . COYI ⚒

  5. Yes, if Everton wims with 7 goals.. Tied on goal differemt with 6 goals. With 2 games to. Go we will likely be 7th. Hope Spurs lose or draw, in that case remain 6th.

  6. Do you actually watch football? Everton will need to win by 6 goals + to send us to 8th

  7. eh did you nort look at table – everton unless wim 8 nil wont over take us

  8. Everton have a +4 goal diff. we have a +10 goal diff so EVERTON WOULD HAVE TO WIN BY 6 OR MORE TO OVERTAKE US.

  9. Everton would have to win 7-0 to go above us.

  10. Lingard has done f all in the past month, the honeymoon period is over.
We are now back to where we were before he signed, just a bog standard mid table side at best unfortunately.
I have real hope for Benrama next season though, as I reckon he is class and now he has scored he will go on leaps and bounds.

    • Bog standard mid table? Still competing with spuds and Liverpool for fith place with two games to go. I’m sure you would have taken that at the start of the season wouldn’t you?

    • Another rubbish comment, we have had a cracking season so far, what the hell do you expect??

  11. I know everyone seems obsessed with getting into Europe but let’s just take a step back a minute, if you look at our points tally, if we win our last two games, this team will officially have the highest points tally, the record points tally for any West Ham team. That would be an incredible achievement given where we were when Moyes took over, given the small size of our squad, given the fact we haven’t even got a born and bred striker in our ranks.

    • Sorry Terry, just look at Leicester, that is what we should be doing. The points tally means nothing if it delivers nothing unfortunately and if people dont think we will struggle to keep our best if we dont qualify then they are in for a shock. Remember both Coufal and Soucek are used to playing in Europe year in year out, Rice will want to and Lingard wont come. The implications ate massive. Obsessed with Europe, no, understand that in order to keep our best and kick on we need to qualify for its competitions yes

      • Are you mad, Julian??? We were nearly relegated last season, haven’t finished in the top 8 since we left The Boleyn. Leicester have won the league and just won the Cup. You people who think we should be in Europe based on our past are morons. You can’t be West Ham fans.

Yes, the last 5 games have been disappointing but do you not understand how much money we spent in the last year and where we have come from.

Do you have dominion over your own feelings or is someone else in control of how you think and feel???

This season, however disappointing the end, has been sensational

      • Got to agree mate

  12. Europe or not I believe David Moyes and his experienced team will continue to develope our squad in next few years to ensure we have a sustainable future. Better than recent history of one good season in five or more! If it means we lose one or two best talents because they cannot wait so be it. Leicester have lost best players and reinvested to ensure continuity.

  13. That’s the difference Leicester are still in there pitching …simple as that,,,the difference in being a constant good team and delivering at right time .. WINNING games when it matters most…..we havnt hence why we drop down table…..if we finish 7 th or 8th it’s really were a team like us should be …but we’re we were makes it a really disappointing season….that’s just me …..

  14. Some of the fans on here are like spoilt little kids who don’t get their own way throwing a stupid little tantrum. Very childish. This is something I’ve seen from some so called fans ever since we left the Boleyn, infact before that. For several years now. Best season I can remember was the boys of 86 season with cottee and Macavennie and even that had a dissapointing ending. This is the best season since then. If we win our last two will be our best premier league season ever, and still they’re not happy. I give up.

  15. No surprise that GSB would welcome us failing to make Europe therefore less pressure to improve the squad. How pitiful our owners are when compared to Leicester City.

  16. I don’t know why everyone keeps saying we had a great season. We have shown a lack of bottle and motivation at the business end of the season and our recent results has been relegation form. I hope this is not a sign of what’s to come next year, when we will possibly be without Rice and Lingard.
