Hammers could look to Real Madrid for loan option

West Ham are exploring a deal for Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz. according to the Daily Mail

The 27-year-old has only made six appearances this season and the Spanish giants and the player are open to a loan move.

The former Lyon striker was targeted by West Brom last summer but would prefer a move to London and Moyes’ formation suits his style.

West Ham sold Sebastien Haller to Ajax for £20m earlier this week and have drawn up a list targets.

While the Hammers are at their maximum two domestic loans with Craig Dawson and Said Benhrama they are allowed an unlimited number of foreign arrivals on that basis subject to the homegrown squad rule that states seven of the squad of twenty-five must be classified as homegrown.

There has also been talk that the Hammers could approach Real Madrid for another striker, another report by Caught Offside claims that David Moyes made an enquiry about Seb Haller’s old teammate Luka Jovic.

Moyes will need to be considerably on the case should he dive into the foreign loan market given previous experience with very few January arrivals from |Europe working out.

Things are not as desperate this time around with the Hammers holding a much healthier league position.

But there can be kittle question that a forward is required despite the manager’s claims that he may need to play with a false striker if he fails to find the right player.

  1. The winter transfer window is a notorious time for clubs getting stung and paying over the odds and I’m thinking that the false number 9 statement is maybe Moyes’s way of coming across poker-faced and not seeming to be TOO desperate!
I genuinely believe that the sale was unexpected, and it was an opportunity that I agree couldn’t be allowed to pass us by, from All sides involved.
Who knows if Mariano Diaz is or will be the one as I don’t know too much about him. As long as the striker that they do get in, isn’t afraid to work hard and has a bit of pace…… he’ll be a good fit, I’m sure!

    • Sounds about right to me, Cat. It didn’t seem that david Moyes remarks were a statement of intent of playing with 10 men. Nothing wrong with false nine, we have one now – Benrahma. We’ve played for years ignoring our lone centre forward under many managers. We aren’t desperate – I think that was DM point. Let’s just wait and see.

  2. Would be risky to rely on a false nine. We’re having a good season , so to push on we need a new striker who will be better for the team than Haller. Let’s push as high as we can and don’t loose the fight . COYI ⚒
