Hammers could write off another £30m this summer

West Ham could write off another £30m this summer if they manage to sell Felipe Anderson and Andriy  Yarmolenko.

Yarmolenko was bought in the summer of 2018 for £18m from Borussia Dortmund but could be sold for around £7m if reports are to be believed, a loss of £11m over three years.  The 31-year-old will have just 12 months left on his contract in June and has just suffered a serious knee ligament injury which could keep him out for months.

Felipe Anderson who was bought for £36m from Lazio in the same summer of 2018 could be sold for just £17m, a loss of £19m over the three years. He is currently on loan to FC Porto for the season with the Hammers desperate to recoup some of the money they laid out for him during Manuel Pellegrini’s tenure.

The potential writing off of another £30m for these two players comes on top of the £25m loss the Hammers made on Sebastian Haller this winter. The former Frankfurt striker was bought for £45m in the summer 2019 only to be sold  to Ajax this January for just over £20m.

  1. The Pellegrini era will forever be a bad part of our history and the Biggest waste of funds that our club had ever seen up to this point. Yarmo was always an old injury-prone player (marginally better than Wilshere) that we should’ve avoided. Teams in this day and age cannot carry players like him… hoping for the odd trick or flick.
Felipe has proved to be a fancy dan player in a similar mould to Yarmo, without the industry required to make it with West Ham or in the Premiership… personally, I think it’s too late in the day for him to become that type of player.
Financial losses…? Yes, it’s gonna happen, but we’ll have to suck it up like many other clubs in the same position in the current climate and move forward with Moyes’s plan.

  2. I cannot see Anderson fetching £17m. £1.7m, yes.
What team would want him except at a bargain basement price?

    • There have been far far too many so called great signings by West Ham over the years, Yarmolenko, Haller, Anderson, all waste of money. It is obvious to any supporter they were only there for the money , such is the state of professional football today.David Moyes has realised this, offload now, suffer the losses, and only buy those who want to wear and fight for the shirt.
This season is a testing ground, perhaps the summer will garner a group of players to send this club on to greater things.
There is a genuine hope Moyes can turn this club into something good, we have been starved of success far too long!

    • True…… I guess I was being Wildly Optimistic LOL

  3. That’s not how transfer fees work

  4. I think if we manage to get anything for those guys it will be a “win”. Cut your losses and move on…

  5. Yarmolenko…A 31 year old with 12 months on his contract. Currently one of our highest earners I would imagine. Long history of knee ligament issues and with next to no form at all across the last 3 seasons. I would love to know who is going to give us £7million for that?! If somebody showed an interest in taking over the remainder 12 months of his contract with no fee, I’d imagine the club what bite their hand off!

    • Agree I’d give him tbh! Just to get his wages off then Bowen would be then highest earner! I love Bowen but £96k after 30 games is a lot his agent did some amazing work I thought £60k was plenty a £36k a week raise after 30 games! Wage structure is important imo & I was never a fan of Yarmo signing. He has had some good moments but even when fit gets found out, BVB where thrilled to get £20m area for a almost 29yo Injuiry prone player. You look at players like Coufal on £36k & Balbuena around same who signed at 26 those make a lot more since as punts for older players bc even if squad option not breaking wages & know will do a job.

  6. These transfer fees quoted are quite ridiculous. I doubt any team will be willing to buy Yarmalenko on his high wages and age. He’ll probably wind down his contract and leave on a free. And Anderson will be lucky to get 10 million for him. He’s also on high wages and has struggled with Porto.
