West Ham defender Ben Johnson seems certain to leave the club this summer.

Ben Johnson played himself into first team contention

He has been unable to agree a new deal with the club despite weeks of trying and the club has now made its mind up that he can leave if that’s what he chooses to do.

Claret and Hugh has learned exclusive this afternoon the club are unwilling to pay him the £50k  a week wage he wants which is at the bottom end of the first team wage structure.

Instead they appear to see him as a nothing more than a back up player and a source at the London Stadium told us: “We won’t pay that sort of money so sadly if he leaves he leaves.”

It will be a major disappointment for the academy-raised player who is claret and blue to his backbone but whose cousin, former Manchester United star Paul Parker, revealed a couple of days ago he wasn’t being looked at by David Moyes and should quit the club.

Crystal Palace are known to be interested in Johnson and Everton too are known  to have inquired so there will be no shortage of takers for a player who has shown he can play at right or left back and in  midfield.

The Irons rejected an offer from Palace  in the transfer window as they were trying to complete a new contract with him but and will now have to let him go as a free  at the end of the season.

Another major cock up with Moyes hand all over it. Ben has done all asked of him never given a run in the team, never developed. He plays first team but we won’t pay him bottom first team wages. He will go to Palace and be looked after. The academy squad of high performers must surely be looking at their options, and who can blame them?
