Hammers defender faces big worries

With Nayef Aguerd heavily involved in Afcon, the Greece international’s  game is coming under close examination and sadly at times leaving much to be more than desired.

Errors in just eight  appearances this season have been costly. Then there was the boob in the FA Cup clash with Bristol City.

There was an own goal against Brentford – a perfect header at the wrong end although in fairness his goal against the Gooners was a cracker. Sadly, that’s not what he is paid for centrally. There have been misplaced passes creating great danger.

He looks nervous and often makes the easy pass when we are looking for more and one wonders why the emphasis in the window appears to have moved from what we all believed was this area of the squad.

Of course the arrival of Kalvin Phillips will help the back four but with the problems surrounding Zouma’s knees, Ogbonna’s age and the often indifferent form of Aguerd plus Mavro, that looks to be where we need help.

The Greece international didn’t cost any thing like as much as Aguerd of course but three points losing errors in eight games is a worry not to be underestimated.

He could be facing another three big games possibly before the Morocco international returns and needs to show himself at his very best at my view.

In the meantime I hope we see a surprise signing at the back before the window closes but am not holding my breath.
