Hammers defender signing in closing stages

|

Rennes central defender Nayef Aguerd – now believed to be very close to signing for the Hammers – fulfils all the requirements of David Moyes and may save him money on a left back.

The 26 year old has been in London recently when it is thought his medical was carried out.

We are also aware that the player was a target for Seville but that the Irons outbid the La Liga outfit as the Hammers moved for the left sided defender who will become the long term replacement for Angelo Ogbonna.

The good news is that the 26 year old’s second position is left back which makes him the ideal signing given the need for cover in that area.

The signing will be a victory for the Hammers recruitment chief Rob Newman who has particularly good knowledge of the French, Spanish and Italian leagues.

All that remains are for successful talks to be held on the player’s add ons which include appearance and positional bonuses and the like.
