One notable exclusion from West Ham’s training camp in Germany, and more recently for their US pre-season tour is Italian international Emerson Palmieri. He’s been allegedly asked to find a new club this summer, following the arrival of two new full-backs—El Hadji Malick Diouf and Kyle Walker-Peters—which has pushed Emerson down the pecking order.
Emerson is reportedly dealing with a minor back injury, and his absence from the tour suggests the club is preparing for his departure.
With his contract set to expire next June, though the Hammers hold an option for a further year, the player is believed to be on a salary of £97k a week making him one of the top earners at the club.
One club reportedly interested in the full-back, is Lazio, whose manager Maurizio Sarri worked with Emerson at Chelsea.
Despite this, Emerson posted a message on social media from the training ground with the word “Resilience,” hinting, perhaps, he’s not ready to give up without a fight.
West Ham are unlikely to agree to a loan move, for Emerson, and his high wages, despite any modest transfer fee, significantly narrow the range of potential suitors.
With the window set to close on September 1st – there is still plenty of time for a deal to be concluded.
I think most fans are happy for Emerson to leave if he wants too and the media has led us to believe he wants to move back to Italy, so who knows what the truth is not Joe Public.
If Emerson wants to stay why not play him as a midfielder, he is better than JWP,Irving and Rodriguez and could probably play as an attacking midfielder, he is not great defensively imho and will frequently be out of position but could offer us an option if we can’t sign any of our midfield targets.
He’s a liability in defence when he can be bothered to do so. He’s had some great games when he is switched on but all too infrequently. We’re covered down the left now. £96k off the wage bill is needed
