Hammers deny central defender interest

|

Despite speculation across some websites West Ham, are not looking for a central defender in the January transfer window.

New names have been regularly thrown into the mix, the latest being Eintracht Frankfurt defender Martin Hinteregger, who is apparently avaialble for £22 million.

However, with Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena, Angelo Ogbonna, Winston Reid on the way back and Goncolo Cardoso pushing for inclusion in the first team squad after a series of top performances at under 23 level, the Hammers have confirmed no interest in that area.

A top insider at the club was quick to deny any interest in Hinteregger or any other central defender telling CandH by e mail: “We do not need any player in that position.”

However, a left back is still seen as a priority and the club are also looking for a striker despite the imminent return of Michail Antonio.

Our source added: “There may be room for maneuver in the window but a central defender is not in our plans.”
