West Ham United are refusing to throw in the towel in the race for red-hot striker Vangelis Pavlidis, according to Portuguese newspaper Record.

The AZ Alkmaar forward, with a stellar season of 33 goals and 6 assists in 46 appearances, has become a transfer target for several European clubs.

Benfica appear to be the frontrunners, reportedly “seduced” by Pavlidis and submitting a €20 million bid. However, this might not be enough to secure the striker, with higher offers expected.
Other major contenders include Atalanta, AS Roma, and most notably, Stuttgart, who have alreaady submitted the highest bid for the Greek international.

Despite not being the favourites, West Ham are determined to stay in the mix. Record claims the Hammers are “not giving up” on Pavlidis.

Interestingly, West Ham are also reportedly bidding for Braga’s Simon Banza, suggesting a proactive approach to securing a new goalscorer.
The club might ultimately choose between Pavlidis and Banza based on the competition and transfer fees involved.
