West Ham are reportedly interested in Evann Guessand from French club Nice, adding him to the growing list of striker transfer targets.
Guessand has rejected a contract extension that reportedly fell far below his demands, while Nice are understood to be unofficially open to offers around £15 million for the striker.
The Hammers enjoy an excellent relationship with the Ligue 1 club, having previously negotiated a challenging deal to beat Juventus to the signing of Jean-Clair Todibo.
However, when Claret & Hugh approached a club spokesman to confirm the Guessand links, they received the standard response: “We are working hard to bring in a centre forward.”
Last season, Guessand made 34 Ligue 1 appearances for Nice, scoring six goals. His form has improved this season, with eight goals and four assists in 17 matches.
Guessand rejoined Nice in July 2023 following a loan spell at Nantes, where he made 30 league appearances, scored three goals, and provided two assists.
As Claret & Hugh revealed exclusively last night, we understand that André Silva remains a target for West Ham as a backup option. Meanwhile, there are growing concerns within the club about the injury record of Taiwo Awoniyi.
Reports suggesting that Nottingham Forest have demanded West Ham terminate James Ward-Prowse’s loan deal before negotiating for Awoniyi are said to be entirely false
18th richest club in the world and we can’t afford a striker??? Absolute nonsense? He wants everything on the cheap or free? The mugs been watching to much only fools and horses and thinks he’s a real life DelBoy? Not having a striker is like a painter not having a paintbrush? Yeah you can paint with your hands but it’s not same is it? A lot of games that we’ve lost recently and I’m not talking about the 5nil thrashings, could have been won if we’d gone a goal or two up? Finishing high up the table means more money for Rodney (not delboy) to spend on his ex glamour models? It’s a no brainier that we need at least 1 if not 2 competent strikers that find the back of the net regularly? I’m excited that we have Potter in charge but he needs the players to assist otherwise he’s being set up to fail? I hope out of all these players we’re being linked with is that we get at least one decent forward or is it just the agents trying to raise their players profile/cost?
Nice to see you all positive again 😞😞
These stories often criticize Steidten but never seem to seek his opinion or report on who he is looking at based on his alleged superior skills in this field. Who is he looking at to solve the striker problem, because everyone else’s opinion really doesn’t matter, or does it?
WHO ??? Why do we not learn from our mistakes…..proven prem forward is needed …and I’m afraid you have to pay for them….sorry sully but that’s it
We need to buy a descent young striker, which can score goals.
Get you money out and break the bank for Duran.
Please not Calvin-Lewin,another player not in form and injury prone.
I am excited about Potter, but please do not buy all the down and outs, which are past their prime.
Exactly my point bud….
Just find a way to get him ….they never learn by there awful transfer mistakes and are still going for bargain basement around Europe with forwards with no prem experience.
Pathetic
Please not the one from Forest he is hopeless.
When are we going to learn we need a prolific striker . Don’t make the same mistakes and expect a different result !
Sullivan stories and make belief a control freak a leopard never changes its spots I guess
If there is a prolific striker out there waiting to be sold he ain’t going to west ham
Of all the strikers we’ve been linked with, Guessand is the only one that excites me. Tall, young, pacey and versatile, this guy looks like a more technically adapt version of Antonio. His ability to play in multiple positions make him the perfect Potter player. For these reasons, I’m certain we won’t sign him and will end up with another journeyman in the 28-32 range, probably on loan.
If we truly bid 40m for Duran, we should easily be able to afford Guessand. The problem is, I don’t think it’s true. After over a decade of Sullivan’s traditional January ’bids’, fans are wise to his claims by now, and I find it perplexing that he continues to use this site for stories like this. Does he really think that will appease fans? But hey, I’d love to be proved wrong!
Sounds like we’ve entered a curiosity shop, just wondering what other oddballs we’re likely to be linked with before Dean Windass turns up
Sounds about right.
Prepared to be underwhelmed….
Dean Windass coupled up front as a two with Ings no doubt ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️
