Now, more than ever, the January window is crucial to West Ham United’s season. The need to add to the front line with this weekend’s events and the rumoured ‘want away’ attitude of Niclas Fullkrug means somehow, West Ham United’s limited budget needs to be made to stretch to a goalscorer.
Lopetegui stay or Lopetegui go – (and you’ll know my thoughts on this from a multitude of previous articles), Steidten or Sullivan at the helm of future signings – the one pretty unifying factor today is that West Ham, sadly, must find a way to bring in another front man immediately.
So when reports emerge of hugely expensive strikers being ‘linked’ I’m not convinced: West Ham simply lack the desire, budget and PSR flexibility to get the cheque book out for a Jhon Duran level purchase. However when reports re-emerge of Brazilian Yuri Alberto being back on the Hammers radar (according to Tribal Football
: “Newcastle or West Ham move leaves 30-goal striker torn as he admits Premier League ‘dream” today) then I’m much more excited.
West Ham tried to sign Alberto a year and a half ago for £14 million, confirmed by the Corinthians Chairman himself, who has vowed to do ‘all he can’ to keep the striker at the club. Money talks, however and I’m sure Alberto would be on the ‘plane if the figures were right.
Whether he’d come to London over Newcastle depends on what happens in the next couple of weeks – I’d question the sanity of any player choosing to come to London Stadium under the present coaching crisis but with a new appointment – absolutely!
Alberto is very open to a Premier League club having spent part of a season in the Russian league before the Ukraine crisis took him back across the Atlantic in search of football – so would be seen as less of an ‘acclimatisation’ risk in London. Under £20 million now could see him Hammers-bound and his wage demands weren’t a stumbling block past time around. I’ll be watching this one closely.
I get your overriding point Martin, but can’t see (even without my claret and blue tinted glasses) how Newcastle would be more attractive than us. Agreed, we do have a coaching issue but a win tonight will put us only 2 points behind them. With the shiny lights of London and our spend in the summer compared to their need to get layers off the books, surely we are much more attractive?
Well said mate!
Would also put us only 2 points behind Spurs. This season is proving to be the most open in recent memory.
Probably since the season Spurs went Spursy and Leicester won the Premiership 🏆
Another subtle backhanded dig at a Tim signing insinuating that Füllkrug is homesick and wants to return to Germany.
We know Sullivan doesn’t like Germans but for C&H to always comment so negatively against a striker who could rescue our season is a low blow.
Never mind the strikers – Ruben Amorim and Dan Ashworth are an available dream team that could help us now. MU experiment is going well. Love it.
COYI
Spurs being 2-0 up and losing AGAIN is even better.
They are the gift that keeps on giving! 🤣🤣
Had to chuckle listening to the Chelsea boys giving it to them on the TV….
Your always be sh*t
Your always be sh*t
Tottenham Hotspur
Your always be sh*t
Nice way to end the weekend’s fixtures 🤣🤣
go out and spend 40 mil on Jonathan David of Lille, he is prolific, i am working in France and see a lot of French football, I honestly think he would love it in the PL!
more chance of J’lo getting WHU to Champions League than West Ham spending 40 mill just now!
Would Loppy play him though? Sullivan has issues with Germans and Loppy has issues with players from Brazil signed by Tim.
Still banging on the “wants away” theme tune despite Füllkrug saying the opposite is really disappointing but standard from C&H 🥱
Rwad my atricle later, you’ll be surprised then
Sullivan out!? Probably not.
Will keep my 👁️ out for it tho 👍
Unfortunately we missed the boat on him due to Sullivan not wanting to pay his agents fee and David has now ripped it up in Champions Lge.
Feel our dithering Dave scenario as chairman is the same as Moyes when missed out on yet another prolific striker / Viktor Gyökeres who we could’ve got for just £17m 🤦♂️
