Hammers earn valuable point

West Ham held on for what could be a vital point against Leeds at Elland Road on Wednesday evening.

The two sides went at each other from the off and the game ended in a 2-2 draw, despite both sides consistently attacking throughout an incident-packed second-half.

Leeds took the lead in the game, thanks to teenager Wilfried Gnonto, as he played a one-two on the edge of the box and drilled the ball into the bottom corner.

Vlad Coufal sent a 45-yard effort just over the bar after Illan Meslier rushed out of his goal but it was Lucas Paqueta who equalised.

Jarrod Bowen was fouled in the penalty area and the Brazil international stuttered in his run-up, before smashing the ball into the top corner on the stroke of half-time.

And Gianluca Scamacca then gave the Irons the lead with a super finish from range. Leeds conceded possession in their own half and the Italian set his sights from 25 yards, sending a brilliant finish in off the post.

Nevertheless, they could not stand firm and Rodrigo equalised on 70 minutes, with a similar finish, as he powered an effort into the back of the net from the edge of the box.

Leeds thought they had a chance to win it with just six minutes remaining when Liam Cooper saw a header cleared off the line, before his shot on the rebound was blazed over.

Both sides came close in injury time, as Mikey Antonio got within an inch of reaching a cross into the box in injury time, before Lukasz Fabianski made a stunning save to deny Rodrigo from close-range.

A fantastic game of football, and while it isn’t a win, it could end up being a valuable point.

  1. A terrible performance in game from Moyes. The decision to play Kehrer, the decision not to play Fornals for the last 5 games, our best player tonight, his decision to take off Fornals, Paqueta, Coufal and Scamacaa and not go and win the game. He is just costing us points game after game. He is holding back this group of players..

  2. Cannot understand how Leeds ended the game with 11 players
