Real Sociedad have completed the signing of Nayef Aguerd from West Ham on a season-long loan deal.

The transfer is believed to include an option, but not an obligation, to buy, with the Hammers receiving a £2m loan payment. The move comes after the Moroccan central defender reportedly rejected opportunities to move to Saudi Arabia, as well as offers from Wolfsburg, Galatasaray, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

There were also rumours of interest from France, but Aguerd appeared to be waiting for a ‘big club’ to offer him an escape route from the Hammers.

However, as the transfer window drew to a close, it became increasingly clear to the defender that he would need to leave West Ham to secure first-team football. New Hammers signing Max Kilman has been in exceptional form since his £40m transfer from Wolves and in many respects has been the player many of us expected Aguerd to be.

Sources close to the player claimed that he had been frozen out at the London Stadium under new head coach Julen Lopetegui.
