Hammers explain Diop position

|

By Hughie Southon

West Ham have confirmed that Fulham are very much in for Issa Diop but no deal is on the cards right now.

The newly promoted Cottagers are desperately keen to recruit the 25 year old but face big  competition from French outfit Lyon.

And that represents a good situation for us as far as any sale is concerned with the two clubs set to push the fee higher than the £12 million being offered at the moment.

A key Hammers source made it clear a deal was set to be done at some stage but told us exclusively: “Fulham have not offered enough at this stage.”

Diop dropped to the bottom of the manager’s central defensive options last season and with new signing Nayef Aguerd having arrived a deal for Diop now looks a given.

The Frenchman moved to West Ham from  Toulouse in the summer of 2018 and was a regular in our  starting eleven in his first two seasons in east London before falling out of favour.
