Hammers Explore Walker-Peters Swap Transfer

West Ham United are reportedly exploring a swap deal involving Flynn Downes and Kyle Walker-Peters.

Walker-Peters, of course, is the Southampton right-back who moved to the south coast club from Tottenham Hotspur. West Ham are on the lookout for a new right-back following Ben Johnson’s agreement to join Ipswich Town on a free transfer.

Downes had a successful loan spell at the Saints last season; therefore, it is assumed this swap deal with Walker-Peters would be easy to conclude.

However, it is being suggested this afternoon that Downes is willing to remain at West Ham and fight for his place. The Essex-born Hammer is quoted as saying he has unfinished business at the London Stadium, which may throw a spanner in the works of any swap transfer deal with Southampton.

There is little doubt that West Ham are in need of a new right-back given the departure of Johnson and the age of first-choice Vladimir Coufal. Perhaps the perfect outcome would be Downes remaining at West Ham and West Ham signing Walker-Peters on a separate deal.

If Downes wants to stay and fight for his place that would be great and we can still do the swap deal but with Danny Ings instead……. Simples.

No effin’ way! There was no place for Flynn Downes at West Ham ever. The worst signing since Jordan Hugill. Downes is never going to displace anyone we currently have, but he would delay the progress of academy players such as George Earthy. Downes’s Prem record is seven starts, seven defeats! I couldn’t believe the comments made by some cupid stunts on here who were trying to suggest that Downes should replace Tomas Soucek!! Czech Republic captain Soucek currently has sixty-odd caps and scored ten goals from midfield last season for West Ham. Would someone please explain what the crab-like Downes can do better than Soucek? (And how many international caps he will win by the time he’s 29 – Soucek’s age – so that’s four years)

Ha, it’s a win win for Sullivan. If we get KWP some cash and off load Downes, sulu will be miking it with the printing on shirts…….

Downes is a great player you numpty. He just helped the saints gain promotion. Would rather Downes over jwp any day. Soucek is great but we need cover why splash out when we have a great player like Flynn ready and wanting to prove themselves, even tho he already has with motm displays for westham already
