A protest is being staged by Bealonians FC tomorrow (Thurs) following claims by local people that the ground on which they play at Oakfield playing fields is under threat from Redbridge Borough and the Hammers.
They believe that applications to lease the area have been put forward and that West Ham’s is being favoured, one rumour being that it could become the training ground for West Ham Women..
However, Claret and Hugh was told by the club this morning they have no deal in place and that they hope the council will rehouse should the area be leased . We also contacted the council but could get no response to an inquiry.
The static protest is planned for tomorrow at 6pm at Redbridge Town Hall.
The Council Meeting commences at 7.15pm and there is a small public area which Bealonian Trustees say those in the public gallery can stay and listen to the debate on Oakfield playing fields on agenda item 7.
Oakfield playing fields and Jack Carter Pavilion is the home to Bealonians FC, Aztecs, Bardoli, Spartans, Scintilla and Essex Panthers cricket clubs, Hainault & Chigwell Muslim Association and London Seaward FC.
The club have started an online petition to stop West Ham taking over the lease with over 8,150 signatures so far at https://www.change.org/p/keep-bealonians-fc-at-oakfield-bealsfc
