Hammers face tough Europa test against in-form Freiburg
West Ham are set to face Freiburg in the Europa League on Thursday in a pivotal game. The Hammers only require a draw in the fixture to secure the top spot in Group A, but it won’t be an easy task.
Whilst West Ham struggled against both Olympiacos and Backa Topola in recent games, Freiburg easily defeated both teams. The German outfit scored five goals without reply on both occasions and have remained unbeaten in the Bundesliga since the beginning of November.
Freiburg’s 1-0 away victory against Wolfsburg this weekend elevated them to 8th in the league, and they are determined to beat West Ham. Their arrival at the London Stadium couldn’t be better timed for them.
The Hammers’ 5-0 defeat to Fulham has left the club in a fragile state, prompting manager David Moyes to grant the exhausted squad two days off. So, if anyone thought Thursday’s game against Freiburg was a formality… think again.
Lucas Paqueta and Nayef Aguerd scored the Hammers goals in the away fixture and West Ham will need both in tip-top form if we’re to win again.
