Hammers facing last chance on Shelvey deal

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini may have a last chance of landing Jonjo Shelvey as the player enters into the last 18 months of his Newcastle United contract.

As reported by The Telegraph, Bruce is eager to organise a new deal for the player he has entrusted with the captain’s armband in Jamaal Lascelles absence.

Pellegrini is an admirer of the 27 year old who would almost certainly be tied down to a new four year deal should Bruce persuade him to stay at St James’ Park.

CandH learned back in the summer that the manager was interested in the local boy who has always been a Hammers fan but decided in the end to pass given past injury and fitness concerns.

But with Bruce now trying to persuade him into a new contract the Hammers may see this as their last chance to land the player who of course scored in the 3-2 defeat to the Geordies at the London Stadium.

He now has five Premier League goals in 13 games this season and is clearly seen as a key player in Bruce’s plans proven by the team’s rise over recent games where he scored in successive games against Manchester City, Sheffield United.

Indeed he has been a key figure as Gold and Sullivan’s former employee  Bruce has seen his team go the last nine games undefeated.
