I make no apologies for writing about George Earthy again following yesterday’s outstanding third goal as West Ham beat Luton 3-1.
Much has been made about David Moyes’ fantastic farewell at the London Stadium; however, it was young Earthy who stole the show and the hearts of Hammers fans with his excellent cameo.
Also, a word of congratulations for fellow academy star Kaelan Casey, who came on as a second-half replacement for Angelo Ogbonna to make it a doubly special day for everyone involved in the West Ham youth set-up.
A clearly delighted Earthy could barely contain his joy when speaking to the West Ham media team: “I don’t think today could have gone much better for me. Coming on and getting the reception I did from the fans and then scoring my first goal was like a dream. I still don’t think it’s all real, to be honest!
“I have been at West Ham since I was six, and to score today for a club I’ve supported all my life and had season tickets for means so much. I can’t really describe that feeling of the ball hitting the net and getting to celebrate in front of the fans.
“I have so many people to thank, especially the coaches I’ve worked with during my time at the academy, and the senior coaches for giving me this chance.”
Earthy and his family should be rightly proud of a moment which clearly means so much to them and also gives West Ham fans something to look forward to.
A nice moment for everyone involved with the club. It’s a shame the Sky Sports media panelists can’t dial in on moments like this, rather then spend their time character assassinating West Ham fans. The pride we all had when he and Casey came on, the extra happiness we had when he scored is the sign of a united community, with a set of values predicated in opportunity, family and passion. I’ve not spoken to one West Ham fan who doesn’t wish Moyes well as it goes. Sky sports can quite frankly sod off!
A brilliant young prospect, exactly what we need. Here’s hoping he is given the chance to progress and succeed.
