La Liga side Villarreal are reportedly in negotiations with West Ham over the purchase of one of the club’s players — but unfortunately, it’s not someone on the ‘for sale’ list.
The Hammers are openly inviting offers for players such as Edson Álvarez, Guido Rodríguez and Emerson, but have so far been unable to move any of them on.
Today, Spanish media are reporting a Villarreal move for defender Konstantinos Mavropanos — but there are two major stumbling blocks.
Firstly, the big Greek, and best mate of Niclas Füllkrug, is Graham Potter’s immediate back-up centre-back — a vital role in a team playing with a back three.

Secondly, the Hammers are asking for €20m, while the Spanish side have no intention of paying anywhere near that figure. It’s shaping up to be a Mateus Fernandes situation, albeit in reverse.
The report in El Periódico Mediterráneo does not specify exactly how much Villarreal would like to pay for Mavropanos, but it’s clearly far short of West Ham’s asking price.
They probably don’t want to pay €20M because they’ve seen him play…

For the right price and was Mavro a player who could go?
There was speculation that Koni de Winter would be much more suitable.
If you could get £15m for him would take it, he is an ok reserve but every time he is pressed he looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights.
If he’s not for sale, it doesn’t matter what they offer, unless it’s twice what we value him at.
Someone tell Mavropanos before he gets to the airport!
