Whilst West Ham United’s future in the Premier League is front, centre and pretty much the only priority in the remainder of this season, work apparently has been going on behind the scenes to strengthen the ‘up and coming’ talent at the club’s disposal.

This would explain the reported ‘tracking’ of one of Germany’s hottest prospects just now.

Max Moersted may not be a name familiar to many English supporters but, if the West Ham talent spotters are correct, that’s all going to change in the near future.

Tall order – 1.92 frontman Max Moerstedt

Reported by sportsboom.co.uk as a ‘sought after target man’, the 20 year old centre forward from Hoffenheim is attracting interest from many, the Hammers high on the list:

“Valued at €20m–€25m, Moerstedt’s future lies at a crossroads as Premier League clubs compete for his signature..

[At] West Ham United: Moerstedt is high on the list as part of the club’s “youth recruitment operation.” Scouts have been tracking his progress step-by-step, specifically noting his clinical finishing for the Germany U20 side.”

Competing with Aston Villa and Newcastle for the young Germans signature of course depends on the Hammers retaining their Premier League status.

With the work going on behind the scenes clearly West Ham are looking long term rather than relying on their current crop of youngsters: Callum Marshall, Josh Landers, Dan Cummings and Josh Ajala may be at the front of the queue next season but it looks at last as if West Ham’s nasty habit of signing strikers at the end of their career is well and truly over.

Perhaps, finally, the Fullkrug lesson has been well and truly learned.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
