Hammers flop Potter skewered by striker he rejected at West Ham

Seemingly the Netherlands v Sweden game was over just after half time as the Dutch scored their third goal against Graham Potter’s hugely expensive Swedish side that featured both Gyokeres and Isak – something approaching two hundred million worth of striker.

Ironically Potter’s Swedes were undone by two first half goals from a Sunderland striker whom Potter had considered – and publicly rejected – for a move to West Ham in his his short, unsuccessful stint at London Stadium during which he became – officially- West Ham’s least successful manager.

Perhaps Brian Brobbey had a long enough memory to recall the day when he reportedly travelled to London to be told he wasn’t wanted and had to travel back to Ajax.

Two classic strikers’ goals from Brobbey, looking every inch the Michail Antonio successor who never was, will have rammed home the point as Potter looked on whilst the Dutch dismantled Sweden’s defence and looked to have dented their hopes of progressing.

3-0 quickly became 4 shortly after Hammer Crysencio Summerville – a half time substitute-  helped set up a goal after the break as Cody Gakpo scored a brace to heap misery on Potter’s shoulders.

The way Brobbey and Gakpo were playing you wouldn’t have bet against either one grabbing a hat trick and completing Potter’s night of misery: However the coup de gràce was administered of course by Summerville himself who rifled home a fifth in the last minute of normal time: West Ham fans’ – and Netherlands fans alike-  would have had their evening completed.
