With strong links to Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz, I thought it would be worth finding out more about the Brazilian starlet. Aged 23, standing at 6ft 1”, he began his senior career at Flamengo in 2020, where he spent some time on-loan at Cortiba, yet also made over 32 appearances for his parent club. With a total of 11 goals in 38 games, in August 2021, Fulham had an €8m bid accepted with the Brazilian club keeping 20% of any future transfer fee.
First team starting appearances were initially hard to come by, yet he still managed 25 appearances with a total of 5 goals in all competitions. In order to gain more regular football, Middlesbrough secured a season long loan in August 2022. Sadly, first team opportunities were limited at the Championship side, which manager Michael Carrick suggested was down to the striker suffering a knee injury. In total he played 17 times with a return of 2 goals.
Returning to Fulham for the 2023-24 season, Muniz had a mixed season, making 33 appearances and scoring 10 times: In the present season, the Brazilian forward has made 21 appearances and scored 4 times.
With a contract that runs until June 2026, and a further one year option, Fulham are in no rush to sell. He has had suffered some short term injuries during his time in England, with a number of knee problems – so the West Ham medical staff will need to be on full alert.
Personally I am underwhelmed by the link, and worry that West Ham will risk-all and over pay for a player that is yet to fulfil his potential. The season in the Championship was a good benchmark for measuring progress, where he struggled. Claret and Hugh will keep you posted if any further interest arises.
Let’s hope it’s not a desperate buy and we don’t go down the similar road, as we did with Danny Ings. Dreadful player, earning obscene wages… The sooner he goes the better and get him off our wage bill…
Is this what the future of Luis Guilherme will look like?
I believe it’s giant agent fees that have put off any buyers for David.
ANOTHER striker with injuries and can’t get into the Fulham side. Why hasn’t Jonathan David been snapped up sure 20 m would get him
Agreed, Matt – we always seem to look at players with / or have had injury issues. God, we have had some go through the West Ham Convalescence Unit over the years !
Hope Gonzo’s post yesterday about Callum Wilson was a wind up, but always a worry when Sullivan pokes his nose in.
Please, let’s get someone decent in who has all their limbs attached !
