West Ham now face competition from Brentford for one of the more exciting young prospects in Europe. That’s according to a national newspaper today as both clubs go after a player dubbed ‘the new Adebayor’ who has also been described as a freight train when up to speed and carrying the ball straight at defenders.
Initially the Hammers were thought to be out own front with discussions for Rheims’ Adama Bojang as the Express wrote two weeks ago – but today’s Sun.co.uk entitles their article ‘Brentford move to beat West Ham to transfer of Rheims striker dubbed the new Adebayor’:
West Ham clearly are not alone in their admiration for the young Gambian striker who has already attracted scouts from three Premier League sides and the report suggests the West London side are now out in front. However Brentford’s appointment of a relative unknown – Keith Andrews – today, to replace Thomas Frank will not help their attempt to beat West Ham to Bojang’s signature.
With apparently a £5 million price tag – if you believe the Sun article – this is evidently not one where the Hammers will lose out because they don’t have the budget. Just a word of caution though – last time this story was being aired Bojang’s price was quoted at £10 million plus which may certainly be a reason the Hammers are back-pedalling if they believe there’s a better second string striker out their for that sort of price.
Does seem a shame as Bojang seems another raw talent who will be selling for £50 million-plus in three or four years and out of West Ham’s league, as happens with so many young talented youngsters who the club ignores at their peril and at the cost of doubling their money as they will undoubtedly do with Mohammed Kudus.
Is this the same Adama Bojang that transfermarkt has valued at less than 1mil. Euro?
