Hammers get Boxing Day wish

|

West Ham supporters will finally get their home Boxing Day game at the London Stadium with 26th December fixture unaffected by TV picks today.

The Hammers will face Southampton on Sunday the day after  Christmas Day with a 3 pm kick-off.

It had been thought that West Ham fans might never see a home Boxing Day fixture again with Westfield shopping centre against a football crowd on their busiest shopping day of the year.

Many had expected the fixture would be moved for TV but the festive day was left untouched for the first time in many years.

Last year West Ham supporters were denied the enjoyment of a traditional game  at the London Stadium as it was moved to 27th December for TV,

Before last year the Hammers had five straight years of away fixtures on Boxing day leaving many to call foul that the schedule was being fixed to avoid home games at the London Stadium.

assuming availability of public transport ???

That’s fine if you have access to public transport. There are thousands of supporters who come into Stratford on the mainline and they don’t run trains on Boxing Day. It’s not like the old days when the vast majority lived local and used to walk to the ground. Sadly this is the first game I’m going miss in years as it’s not worth the aggravation and time it will take to get there

I think the vast majority would disagree with you there. If it was away again only a handful of supporters would get to see it anyway. Mainline trains or not.
