West Ham are now receiving compensation from FIFA for Edson Alvarez under the Club Protection Programme.

Alvarez pulled up on June 27 during the Copa America match against Jamaica, which also featured fellow Hammer Michail Antonio.

The medical team arrived on the scene shortly after the West Ham midfielder collapsed to the pitch in agony.

Due to the severity of his hamstring injury, Alvarez was substituted in the 30th minute of Mexico’s Copa America clash.

The programme doesn’t cover the first 28 days of injury but compensates wages up to £5.85 million per incident, meaning West Ham should receive around £750,000 in compensation if Alvarez returns after the international break.

Alvarez is the subject of conflicting reports, with Fabrizio Romano claiming this week that the midfielder is set to feature against Crystal Palace this weekend. However, club sources insist that the player will not be available until after the September international break, likely returning for the Premier League game against Fulham.

Should make sure he isn’t back playing before the transfer window closes, having him until January is essential and maybe put a buyout clause in £85m seems to be a number they like.
