West Ham will have to pay £20m to sign Phil Jones from Manchester Unitedshould they choose to make a move.
The Sun reports that the centre-back could quit Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
He has not played for the club this season and made just two appearances in the Premier League last season.
The 28-year-old is not in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans and United would be open to letting him go, though they want a sizeable fee for his signature.
The Hammers were first linked with Jones earlier this summer by the Daily Mirror but no deal materialised; the Hammers signed Craig Dawson on loan from Watford instead.
If they do want to do a deal, they will have to find £20m at the turn of the year.
Jones is an experienced campaigner and has played 224 times for United, while also winning 27 caps for England.
He has a contract until 2023 but is keen to play regular football as he bids to fight his way back into the Three Lions reckoning.
