Hammers given defender price

West Ham will have to pay £20m to sign Phil Jones from Manchester Unitedshould they choose to make a move.

The Sun reports that the centre-back could quit Old Trafford in the January transfer window.

He has not played for the club this season and made just two appearances in the Premier League last season.

The 28-year-old is not in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans and United would be open to letting him go, though they want a sizeable fee for his signature.

The Hammers were first linked with Jones earlier this summer by the Daily Mirror but no deal materialised; the Hammers signed Craig Dawson on loan from Watford instead.

If they do want to do a deal, they will have to find £20m at the turn of the year.

Jones is an experienced campaigner and has played 224 times for United, while also winning 27 caps for England.

He has a contract until 2023 but  is keen to play regular football as he bids to fight his way back into the Three Lions reckoning.

  1. No thankyou. Keep going forward not back.

  2. Phil Jones? I’d rather have Catherine Zeta…. but then, wouldn’t most of us…..

    • To slow not worth 20million West ham stay clear. If we are looking to improve our defence we should be looking at players that can be at least as good or better than we already have.

  3. Man U sold Smalling for less than £20m and he’s a far better CB than Jones. Ok Jones is slightly younger but he’s not worth that sort of money. Maybe £15m max.

  4. Please God No!!

  5. HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA – thanks for this the sun. Where do they come up with this rubbish

  6. £20m for an unwanted player whose manager doesn’t rate strong enough to get into his team!!!!!! Avoid this one like the plague unless he comes on a free.

  7. 20 mil? He hasn’t played two seasons and he’s just really poor in general… probably one of the players who through Moyes under a bus at united

  8. 20 million hahaha 🤣🤣🤣… I wouldn’t take him on a free… ⚒️

  9. Please God, no. Don’t need him, don’t want him. Even if he was on a ‘free’. Size of Neil Ruddock but without mobility and talent. Seem to remember Jose not being too pleased about him in the Man U team. Made-up paper trash. Leave it there!

  10. Do me a favour. Let’s just be thankful he’s not a Salthouse client

  11. £20m for Jones but Rodon for £11m madness!
Though Levy got a good deal on Rodon.
They are pricing out players of moves & did same with Rojo 2 years ago. Smalling only got move bc he did so well on loan but they want more for Jones who is injury prone too.
In January there will be a lot more CBs to chose from. Just looking at Reading I’d always liked Liam Moore he is a leader & would be our quickest CB well rounded fast tidy passer & then Tom McIntyre who has played some good games but Moore & Morrison are first choice. He is a young prospect with pace & ball player but defends well too. Only has a year left on deal so could probably get a deal. With Dawson on loan Balbuena, Ogbonna & Diop I think we could take a punt on a player that Moyes will say is one for next year. But you need to get them before then bc that’s how you get the deal. Then keep developing them have resale value & that’s what model Red Bull use….
But we definitely need in back is pace has we’ve seen so should be going after CBs who are quick on turn.

  12. Hahahaha OMG nearly spat my coffee up reading this pile of old codswallop, gurner Jones wouldn’t even be good enough as a ball boy let alone wear a hammers shirt, typical man u getting rid of trash & over pricing it to boot.
