Hammers go top in dour win

|

Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen were the stars of a dour victory combining for an opening goal to bring back memories of the Conference Final victory when the linked up for the winner.

The Brazilian produced a magnificent lofted ball to the far post for Bowen to nod home later in the first half and a late header by Zouma from Ward-Prowse’s corner ensured that the Irons went back to the top of the Premier League until tomorrow night at least.

 Zouma grabbed vital second goal

That turned out to be a very important goal as Andersen rose with three minutes of extra time left to head home for the hosts.

Ours wasn’t the  type of performance we had become used to seeing against Chelsea and Brighton with the team spending much of the second half passing sideways and backwards as they held on to the slender lead before we added a second.

The Hatters were half decent but with more attacking emphasis from the the Irons we could have ensured our goal difference was much better.

Paqueta was the best player on the pitch – always looking to create and and he and Bowen are becoming a Premier League class act.

Alvarez was also in quality form  in front of the back four and Ward-Prowse looks a very good buy as the Hammers now go into the international break with 10 points on the board.

This has the makings of a top season!

It came across as a pre season jolly until injury time. The 6 mins time added on gave the nerves a twitch and the ref did us a favour over the pen.I get the feeling had we signed and played Harry McGuire we would have ended up with a point.

Yes it really was a good show and a good shape, how quickly has Alvarez looked very good in a super triangle with Paqueta and Ward-Price moving forward very quickly in transition. Imo we are much better with an attacking wide midfielder like Benrahma occupying the opposition defence and stopping the quick break against us. Interesting where the new signing will play, let’s see

I see Mavropanos didn’t make the bench. Is he injured or is he one the dinosaur didn’t want?

Thought we were always comfortable up to the last few minutes. Should have capitalised on our superiority and made it an easy win. Luton are a terrible side
