Hammers have a team of midfielders plus subs

Reports this morning that the Irons that the Hammers “have been beaten to the signing of Joan Jordan” should not be taken over seriously.

For as reported by CandH a week ago the player was always seen as second choice to Pablo Fornals and even if that had not been the case the Hammers can now field  an entire team of midfielders with three young subs.

The possible departure of Pedro Obiang may be on the cards but in the meantime the options facing the manager in the centre of the park are – as the saying goes “mental.”

And with only Marko Arnautovic as a now recognised front man it’s obvious that’s where all attention will be focused from next week onwards.

Whilst reporting Pedro’s positions a few minutes back I took a look at the midfield options available to the boss. Here they are: Fornals, Anderson, Lanzini, Snodgrass, Obiang, Sanchez, Noble, Wilshere, Antonio, Rice, Diangana and Yarmolenko.

Besides that 12 we have Nathan Holland with a dressing room first team peg and tipped as the next big thing, along with Conor Coventry.

Beyond that there’s Josh Cullen who is looking – sad to say – for an unlikely squad position.

It begs the question as to who could be sold – beyond Obiang – to perhaps raise funds for that urgently required striker or two.

Sanchez would raise very little and Wilshere has a proving time in front of him whilst Snoddy did nothing to deserve an exit – give us your thoughts!

  1. Pelle, like any other manager, of course wants at least two players in every midfield position.
I don’t think Pelle considers Diangana, Holland or Coventry to be ready to fill such a position yet.

    DM Rice/Sanchez
    CM Noble/Obiang
    AM Lanzini/Wilshere
    RM Forlans/Snodgrass
    LM Anderson/Yarmolenko

We also have Antonio but I think Pelle will use him as a forward player as well as a midfielder.

  2. I think Jordan would be potentially a nice little earner. If he ends up at Sevilla, that’s something, would rather a rival team didn’t benefit from his low buyout clause.

  3. Obiang £7/8m, sanchez £0m, maybe send Diangana out on loan till January & it’s now or never for Cullan £0m, he’s 23 & has gone out on loan four times & still hasn’t got near the 1st squad regularly, doing reasonably well in league one counts for nothing, ### or get off the pot son.
Looking at who we have to call on I can’t see where Holland or Coventry can force their way in, Cups & a bad run of injuries maybe.

  4. As it stands we are covered. I think we will only need a workhorse central mid to cater for the anticipated departure of Obiang.

  5. Several candidates but only Lanzini will raise much needed cash

  6. Snoddy and Sanchez out Obiang if we can sell him the same, Lanzini can go for a decent fee all the kids including Diangana on loan, keep Yarmolenko, Antonio, Fornals, Wilshere, Noble, Rice and Anderson with Arnie aswell who is a winger that’s 8 midfielders which should be enough, we also have Masuaku who can play left wing. Buy two proper forwards a cdm and left back in a perfect world and we are golden!!!
