Hammers Have Serious Interest in Spurs Misfit

West Ham are considering a move for former Tottenham left-back Ryan Sessegnon on a free transfer, according to Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg. The columnist has excellent contacts at West Ham and is one of the more reliable sources of Hammers information.

West Ham are well-stocked at left-back with Emerson and the long-serving Aaron Cresswell, who recently signed a one-year deal to remain at The London Stadium. Personally, I don’t see the need for another left-back given the lack of European football. That being said, I seem to remember the former Fulham player being a versatile attacker who could also operate on the left side of midfield.

Sessegnon, a free agent after being released by Spurs, is looking for a new club after a difficult spell with injuries. Fulham are interested in a reunion with the 24-year-old, and there has also been initial contact from the Hammers as well as some interest from Germany.

It has not been a hugely successful transfer for the player since his £30m move across London to Tottenham. However, he is a player with considerable talent and has certainly had his moments at White Hart Lane, or whatever they’re currently calling it.

Steinberg does point out in his article that Sessegnon would satisfy the how grown quota but I was under the impression that was the one of the reasons for retaining Cresswell.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

I started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

I give West Ham opinions and interviews on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus. Former video and content creator for West Ham United back in the days of Upton Park. I was lucky enough to feature in the documentary broadcast on that final wonderful game at the Boleyn when Winston Reid broke Manchester United hearts.

I frequently feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

More West Ham moaning is done on a daily basis here 👇👇

    Two words “Ryan Fredericks”

  • Matt says:

Championship player like Ben Johnson and Ryan Fredericks. Found out when joined Spurs as his positional awareness is woeful. His injury record is horrendous and despite being free his isn’t worth the gamble. Signing young players with potential is great, but signing flops from other clubs isn’t wise just to boost homegrown quota.

West hams 2nd signing is imminent my sources tell me that terms have been agreed, no transfer fee required as the widow twanky is, a, free agent.

Don’t need injury plagued players at any time.
    No thanks.

Laz from oz…..if we are looking for a big strong centre back who is good with his head we should look at Harry Soutar he has been fantastic for Australia every time he’s played for us.. he’s off contract at Leicester too

Also agree, we should have grabbed him before he went to the Foxes.
He has been terrific for Aus and knows where the goal is on the offensive end and set plays!

  • Jeeps says:

Having Emerson and Cresswell can hardly classify as well stocked for left back position.
Cresswell has no speed / aged and only just missed going out the door with Ogbonna and Zoom(a).
Rotation and injuries need to be covered.
Need two centre backs perhaps if one could also cover left back position would help.

Signing Sessegnon on a FREE would be a no-brainer IMHO.

He’s versatile, plays from back to front and had a knack for goals until he made the career defining move, where he went a bit ‘Spursy’….

    Sign him up!
