The same theme is likely to be repeated over and over this summer as several Premier League clubs fall over themselves in the search to bring in players who will strengthen their respective squads without breaking the bank. Whilst, out of all the Premier League clubs, West Ham have probably the most burning need to recruit a striker this summer, just having the need is by ono means a guarantee of landing the top target.
Liam Delap, once ‘favoured’ by the West Ham board, is now being linked with a move to Newcastle with their Champions’ League expectations alive and kicking. In any case his eventual sale price is likely well above the £20 million relegation clause written into his Ipswich Town contract. Everton, Wolves, Newcastle, all are frequently reported chasing the same targets as the Irons.
West Ham’s recruitment team had some weeks ago – reportedly – agreed personal terms with Corinthians’ Brazilian striker Yuri Alberto. However frequent links in the last window suggested Premier League clubs were on his trail and as the Golden Boot winner 2024, if anything that interest has stepped up: West Ham certainly won’t get a clear run.
Birminghamworld.uk reports Wolves’ continuing efforts to take Alberto to to Molineux in their article this morning :
“Wolves are eager to reignite their interest and sign him this summer. Brazilian publication Sobre Corinthians reports a bid is expected for Alberto in the transfer window, with Corinthians waiting for an offer of around €30 million (£25.2m).
Wolves may not be on their own, however, as West Ham United have been linked with Alberto in recent months. According to Caught Offside, the Hammers agreed personal terms with the striker last month.”
Like all ‘transfer targets’ at this stage of the season, Alberto’s published price is rising and is now double the bid West Ham made in 2023. Whether that will remain the same if Alberto remains unsigned come the end of August is another matter: Like a multi-million game of ‘chicken’ the Hammers will wait to see if he can be bought to London at a more realistic price. With the risk that entails.
I thought it was £30m, not £20m?
Also if a club comes in and pays the release clause, there’s nothing the selling club can do. Not sure where you got that if a clause is in place then a club would have to pay over it?
If there is a 20 million relegation release clause for Delap , then that’s what will be paid if he leaves Ipswich . A low transfer number will just increase his potential wage . If Westham can lure him then they should because he definitely would score goals for Westham . Unproven Alberto for 30 million from a weak league is a gamble given how streaky his form tends to be .
Seriously what half decent player would want to come to us.we are a last resort club for players whether we like it or not
Yep as per usual we snooze and we lose how many strikers have we withered on and lost Watkins toney gykores Duran and you can add Alberto to that because Sullivan wont back potter he will be given players out of salthouse and silkman stables
Don’t forget Josh King.
Is there any point to this clap trap ? Here’s one for ya, I know a bloke who is the friend of a guy that has a friend who works down the chip shop and he says we are going to sign a world beating wonder kid for virtually nothing, could be true ! 🤪🙏🏻. 60 years of supporting and have never been so bemused or dissapointed by the circus my club has become. 😥
Me neither mate and the steidten debacle just about sums the dwarf and the witch up since gold went these two have made horrendous mistakes, what I don’t understand kretinsky put 190 million in this club and stood by and let Sullivan throw his man under the bus and has said and done nothing
Completely agree and I’ve been following them since 1958. So sad to see what the dwarf and the witch have done to my club.
Sullivans propaganda site at it again so tedious and repetitive.
Let’s all give huge thanks to sullivan, he will get us to were he wants us to be I’m sure of that. Relegation in the following 2 seasons and down in league 1.hes only ambition is to make even more money, when climate change wipes the planet to extinction he and his brethern won’t be taking the money with them.
If there was ever a nuclear war Sullivan would still survive ….
Martin, some of these “links” you talk about are extremely tenuous and vague. Do you actually believe them, or is it just about getting people to read your articles?
Of course they cannot all be true, but as a Hammers fan first and foremost I’m reading them from that perspective and then try and show them to readers along with the link so readers can make up their own minds. But who wants to miss the ‘link’ that leads to a player signing? I remember being absolutely slated last summer with the Max Kilman ‘links’. Read, or don’t read, they’re all produced free, gratis and for nothing with good intentions: The choice is yours.
Linked and getting player are two different aspects.
Waiting until August? Looks like scraping bottom of barrel as usual.
Whu signings match their mid field snails pace.
Apparently all signings are needed for pre-season training.
No chance.
Please W Ham dont start up the we tried routine this window Because nobody is in the mood right now for more lies and deception that is always thrown our way Get our club back on course
We’ve moved on to first and final offer from m’Lady😂
She’s definitely no lady
Qyite right Bill coz apparently she only swears when it slips out and her old man must slip out of her loads of times
No chance with them two at the helm no ambition just lining their pockets
Alberto speaks Portuguese and could join Wolves who hired a coach that speaks the same lingo, completely turned around Wolves season and who actually plays strikers.
Hmmmm tough choice.
