Emerson Palmieri shared a classy and emotional farewell video on Instagram following his transfer to French Ligue 1 side Marseille. Packed with highlights from his time in claret and blue, the video offered fans a poignant look back at his journey with West Ham.

The Italian international had struggled for game time in his final season under Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter, so his departure was always on the cards. Signed from Chelsea for £13m, Emerson will still be remembered as part of a successful period for the club.

In his heartfelt message, Emerson reflected:

“My journey with West Ham has come to an end—at least on the pitch. But my heart will always be with you. From the very first day, I felt at home, and today I leave with one overwhelming emotion: gratitude.

To the incredible supporters, my teammates, the staff—thank you. We shared unforgettable moments, and I’ll carry them with me always. That night in Prague, lifting the Conference League trophy together, will forever be etched in my memory.

Football, like life, teaches us that honesty, respect, and hard work matter more than titles or positions. Time always reveals the truth.

I’ll be cheering for you all, always. Big hug and respect.”

The post struck a chord with fans and former teammates alike. Lucas Paquetá, Emerson’s close friend, reshared the tribute with his own message:

“God bless you on your new journey, brother. It was a pleasure to share these last four years by your side. I’ll always be rooting for your success. We’re always together, my friend.”

Emerson’s departure may close his chapter in East London, but he signed off in style—and he will always have a place in supporters’ hearts for that unforgettable night in Prague, June 2023.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

I agree, very confusing, especially with his pace, he could quite easily have filled I at either full back or midfield.
Good luck to him for the rest of his already successful career

Yeah, not sure we’ve made the right decision here. Good luck Emerson and thank you, we will always have Prague!

He did well for us and will be fondly remembered. The ECE trophy gave him the full cabinet of European club trophies. Pretty sure he’s the only player to achieve this 🙂

Top man – always gave everything for the shirt. As with Coufal definitely had his limitations but a full-hearted competitor. Wish him well in the next step of his career. Oh and that free kick against Arsenal wasn’t too shabby!

To be honest I’m still a bit confused why we sold a decent, reliable and capable player for peanuts. I get that newer, younger players should always be coming in and fighting for selection but for him to go so cheap seems pointless to bother selling.
Had he become such a bad player over the last season that he wasn’t even good enough to be a squad player? Was his wages really that costly? I can think of countless times having Cresswell in the squad was worth every penny. Could Emerson not have filled that role?

He was 31. Him and Cresswell were both on the decline sadly but now we have young Diouf who is on the way up and there is a pathway opened up for Scarles. If we want our young players to progress it’s what we need to do.

I don’t believe his salary justified a squad player, even if he was happy with that level of involvement.
