Hammers hero demands new deal for defender

Leading ClaretandHugh blogger John Moncur has told the two Davids to make sure James Collins isn’t allowed to leave for Sunderland or anywhere else this winter.

Moncs watched the 32 year-old turn in a titanic performance against Swansea at the Liberty and said: “Frankly I’d give him two years now – it’s not as though he’s a midfielder whose legs are gone, nor is he a striker who has lost his speed.

“He has two years left in him and is brilliant around the dressing room – he is the perfect example for young players on how to behave. He reads the game superbly  and was clear man of the match yesterday.

“If there are clubs out there desperate to shore up their defences and see him as the answer why would we let him leave. He loves the club and is loved by the fans.

“He has loads still to offer and I can see absolutely no reason to let him go. People have said that we have Reece Burke to come in but he’s exactly the type of youngster who would learn from ‘Ginge.’

“He’s a terrific servant and personally I’d give him a contract that allows him to see out out his career at the club he loves.”

Love Ginge but if we are going to move on and bring through Burke,Henry and Oxford,
Keep him this year or if he wants to go nod get 1 more big contract reward him for his service but his time has arrived,
He will not want to spend 3 years bum sitting or not playing he is worth more then that

Blimey, I never thought I’d say this but I understood what Bubs is going on about and agree with him.

Collins has got to think of his own interests, if he can get a couple of years at another club then so be it – you’d wish him well and thank him for his efforts. Of course, this all depends on these young lads being able to step up.

I was going to be all negative and say we shouldn’t do BFS any favours but I won’t go there!

I also agree; Ginge has made the odd mistake, but he is generally a consistent rock in front of goal and has been since he came from Cardiff. He is a player who puts his body in the firing line and exactly the type of player most fans crave for, hardworking loyal and someone who loves the club. Loving the club is not enough on its own to warrant a new contract, and we do have, in theory at least, a wealth of players for that position, but I would give him a new contract now if I could.

Great performance. Refreshing to see a player want to play for the club, despite being 3rd or 4th choice, not being egotistic and taking his chance when given. A great attitude.

  • Dainon says:

Id keep him as well, defo for the remainder of this season as as back up for next. If we sell him you can be sure we will instantly lurch into a defensive crisis

  • Michael Miller says:

I agree – Collins has been immense and always gives his utmost!

You can’t have too many good players and we’ve really needed him during the present crisis, he’s someone you can rely on!
