Josh King’s move to West Ham is being held up over his wage demands according to the Daily Mirror.
The Bournemouth striker has hit stalemate over his proposed switch to join the Hammers
The 28-year-old is out-of-contract at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer but West Ham cannot loan him as they already have the maximum domestic loans in Dawson and Benrahama.
The striker wants a big pay-day when he signs his next deal in lieu of any transfer fee being due to his new club.
King would pocket a hefty sum by allowing his contract to run down and he wants compensation for any sacrifice reflected in his new pay deal at his next club.
The Cherries are holding out for a transfer fee in excess of £10m for a player who has suffered with injuries so far this season but who has made a steady return to action during the past month.
West Ham are refusing to be held to ransom having a number of enquires and bids already in for multiple strikers.
No no no.
Is King really the answer?
Two goals in the cup this year against lower league opposition
Last year 6 goals which I think included 3 pens
And injured much of this campaign so not match sharp
I find it surprising King feels he can command (heh heh) high wages. The market is flush with Frenchmen and WHU should keep looking for undiscovered gold elsewhere.
Has all the hallmarks of brinkmanship, imho someone will buy him in last days of windows when one party gives a little. If I was a footballer of King’s quality would probably do the same in what will probably be his last big contract. Can only guess that Moyes is not thinking of using him every game, otherwise the wages wouldn’t be an issue but for a second choice striker that would be a lot to pay out ?
Not exactly the prolific striker we are looking for is he.?
He’s after his final Big PAYDAY….. and for this reason, he is also the type of player we have been trying to AVOID…going forward.
To get the sort of payday that he is looking for, he would’ve had to have been scoring consistently over the years…. in which case, he probably wouldn’t be linked with us now, and wouldn’t be playing for Bournemouth either…..so I think he should look to lower his financial ambitions IMHO.
Too right, Cat. If money is his motivation – avoid at all costs.

60k a week is even too much for a player who is 28, max you will get 2 good years out of him once he gets that big fat pay day. Not for me a lot hungrier and better options in the market for me. I have no problem paying 80k a week for a top player who is in his early to mid 20’s and is hungry to prove himself. Paying a player 120k a week n this climate for a 28 year old who was in and out of a Bournemouth team is just ridiculous. On his day he is a fine footballer but I have not seen that for a while and he has some injuries issues in recent times too.
Troy Deeney is our man. Won’t cost a lot and hopefully,as Antonio back-up, won’t play a lot. If we go for someone costing too much (like over £10million) the pressure will be on to play them in preference to Antonio. We won’t want or need to play two of them together. Waste of time if Antonio isn’t picked. Very unhappy expensive substitute if he doesn’t get to play. Respect, protection of asset value and all that stuff. Much better with Troy or someone like him. Not at all sure that that player is King.
